The room was very spacious and private, and the beds were very comfortable. The owner included lots of amenities and nice quality dishes and towels. He also provided nice bread, local marmalade and coffee for breakfast. Lived the area and was in walking distance of some good Okonomiyaki restaurants!

Quaint little town - lots of small, independent shops.
Quaint little town - lots of small, independent shops. Feels like you are stepping back in time. Everyone we met was very friendly. Perfect base for starting the Shimanino cycle ride across nearby islands. Good bike hire at docks.

Onomichi is easily one of the best places I've ever been to. There is so much beautiful scenery and so many hidden gems to enjoy. The people are marvelous and the food is amazing. And of course the great many cats to be seen make for a truly magical experience

My favourite place is the observation deck on the top of the mountain, which has a great view. You can take beautiful pictures of this city. For food, Onomichi Ramen is fatty for me, but there are other restaurants in city which have their own specialties. A city walk is recommended, since there are a lot of temples on the mountain, and you need to get there on foot, and explore their beauty. I will prepare a better shoes for the next trip and bring less item with me next time, because the tour on in the city requires a lot of physical strength.

For many Onomichi is the start of the Shimanami Kaido cycle route, but Onomichi has enough attractions that it is worth staying at least one day to look around. The Temple Walk is worth viewing the 25 temples along the route and the view from the top is great, and Cat Alley is great fun. A walk along the pier and having a snack or meal at one of the restaurants there is pleasant.

Onomichi is a nice seaside, port town and has a good vibe.
Onomichi is a nice seaside, port town and has a good vibe. Its the start, or end, of the Shimanami Kaido and attracts many people keen to do this cycling route. The town has a nice atmosphere as the people are friendly, helpful and accommodating. If I was keen I'd stay an extra day amd do the temple walking route as it seemed nice and went into the hills above town. Local ramen was demand served by super friendly hosts in the restaurants.

If you want to cycle the Shimanami Kaidou, be s7re to arrive...
If you want to cycle the Shimanami Kaidou, be s7re to arrive early in Onomichi, since you are able to visit the main attractions, being Senkou-ji and the old temple course, in a few hours. After this you should be able to start cycling the Shimanami Kaidou.
It is a steep walk up from the station but the view is wonderful. It’s only c.1,000 JPY for a taxi if you don’t want to walk. You’ll be up here anyway to see Senkoji etc.
Even better were the staff who were incredibly helpful and friendly.
We stayed here 2 nights and then spent 2 days doing the Shimanami Kaido. We liked the hotel so much we then returned to this hotel for a final night in Onomichi after the cycling.
We’ve now spent 8 weeks in Japan across 3 trips and Onomichi is arguably our favourite town / city.
Great location close to the station, restaurants, shops and bike rental places.
We had a great view from our room across the river and there is free rooftop access for a 360° view around.
Many available toiletries/amenities, free coffee and water in the lobby.
The staff was amazing and helped us finding specific restaurants. When we wanted to send our luggage to the next hotel they walked with us to the shipping company and explained what we wanted to do in Japanese for us. 11/10 service!
Location is great, it's right by the water. We actually were on our bicycles to get there and no problem locating the hotel. There's plenty of parking spaces in front of the hotel, if you come by car. Facilities are great. We stayed in shared dorm using shared bathroom which is no issue for us at all. Bunk bed is quite comfy and quiet at night. Bathroom is squeaky clean, very very clean! We love everything here and will definitely plan a trip to stay here again!
This was the best accomodation we had for our entire 3 week trip! The room had an elevated tatami mat area with back rests and a view over the harbour which was so comfortable and perfect spot to relax. Bed was really big and comfy, and this is the only hotel where we had a walk in shower not in a bathtub. Perfect location as well - on top of the station but still quiet and easy walk to all the restaurants. Staff were all really friendly and helpful.
Yubune is in a fantastic location, right near the waterfront, and close to great cafes. It was the perfect stop for us overnight whilst rising the Shimanami Kaido.
Beautiful building, lovely modern Japanese decor, large room that stored our three bikes easily.
Hotel staff were lovely and helpful, and the breakfast included at a local restaurant was excellent quality! would definitely stay here again, and next time try the onsen.
Amazing old japanese house. The rooms are traditional with tatami mats, futong beds and sliding doors. Visting this place is a true experience in traditional Japanese culture. The location is also beautiful on top of a hill with the most beautiful over Onomichi. It's also very close to the station, restaurants and the starting point of the biking trail.
The building is really nice, made of wood and feels very organic and open, with lots of character. Bunks are big with generous curtains so there's plenty of privacy. The shared space is cozy and nice as well. The host was very friendly, as were other guests, and it was an easy place to socialize. It's also very centrally located in Onomichi.
Exceptional view of Onomichi. All rooms have a sea view. Rooms are dated, but otherwise clean. Very affordable price, especially considering the view. Staff extremely friendly. Japanese breakfast for 1200 yen was very good, served in the restaurant room also with a view of the city. Close by walking distance to Senkoji and the Observatory
Close to the railway station for local trains and also very close to the bike hire place which was the reason for visiting Onimichi as riding the Shimanami Kaido cycle route to Imabari (and back).
Also close to izakaya and ramen shops.
Also a cheap and decent breakfast available at the hotel.
Room spacy and confortable. Nice bathing and wc area. We stayed here one night because it was near Onomichi and Onomichi was overbooked. There were lots of bad reviews. This facility is in a love hotel concept but we haven’t had any issues about it. Staff was nice. Breakfast inc
Excellent guesthouse in an excellent location. Very comfortable rooms that made it easy to relax after a busy day of walking around Onomichi. The cafe on the first floor was nice, too, and we had a nice breakfast and drinks in the evening. The staff was wonderful, as well.
Conveniently located right in front of Onomichi Station and all the sightseeing sites are within a walking distance. A lot of restaurants nearby. My room was a bit small (which is the Japanese standard) but had a nice view of Onomichi Strait. Breakfast was amazing.
The staff were very welcoming and kind. The food was delicious and artistically presented. The atmosphere is very clean and relaxing. It’s a small hotel and the service is very personal. Highly recommended if like Japanese style lodging and food.
The room was super pretty, and the shower pressure and provided soaps were nice. The surrounding area is full of cute shops and restaurants, we had a great time exploring at night and in the morning. I want to come to Onomichi again!
Great location in the main arcade of Onomichi. Lots of places to eat and drink nearby. An Japanese-style tatami room that overlooked the small courtyard. Shared kitchen and bathrooms are clean and organised.
The details pertaining to cyclists were all amazing. You are allowed to carry your cycle to your room. It’s right adjacent to the ferry terminal to the starting point in Onomichi for Shimanami Kaido trail.
