This was the perfect hotel to start your Shiminami Kaido adventure. Just a short walk from the hotel to the ferry that takes you over to the next island. The rooms were very cozy and all the amenities were a welcome surprise. The use of the bike rack and tire pump was awesome since my bike arrived with a back flat tire. The hotel staff was very helpfully and welcoming and went out of their way to make sure your stay was relaxing and enjoyable.

The room was very spacious and private, and the beds were very comfortable. The owner included lots of amenities and nice quality dishes and towels. He also provided nice bread, local marmalade and coffee for breakfast. Lived the area and was in walking distance of some good Okonomiyaki restaurants!

Quaint little town - lots of small, independent shops. Feels like you are stepping back in time. Everyone we met was very friendly. Perfect base for starting the Shimanino cycle ride across nearby islands. Good bike hire at docks.

Onomichi is easily one of the best places I've ever been to.
Onomichi is easily one of the best places I've ever been to. There is so much beautiful scenery and so many hidden gems to enjoy. The people are marvelous and the food is amazing. And of course the great many cats to be seen make for a truly magical experience

My favourite place is the observation deck on the top of the mountain, which has a great view. You can take beautiful pictures of this city. For food, Onomichi Ramen is fatty for me, but there are other restaurants in city which have their own specialties. A city walk is recommended, since there are a lot of temples on the mountain, and you need to get there on foot, and explore their beauty. I will prepare a better shoes for the next trip and bring less item with me next time, because the tour on in the city requires a lot of physical strength.

For many Onomichi is the start of the Shimanami Kaido cycle route, but Onomichi has enough attractions that it is worth staying at least one day to look around. The Temple Walk is worth viewing the 25 temples along the route and the view from the top is great, and Cat Alley is great fun. A walk along the pier and having a snack or meal at one of the restaurants there is pleasant.

Onomichi is a nice seaside, port town and has a good vibe.
Onomichi is a nice seaside, port town and has a good vibe. Its the start, or end, of the Shimanami Kaido and attracts many people keen to do this cycling route. The town has a nice atmosphere as the people are friendly, helpful and accommodating. If I was keen I'd stay an extra day amd do the temple walking route as it seemed nice and went into the hills above town. Local ramen was demand served by super friendly hosts in the restaurants.

If you want to cycle the Shimanami Kaidou, be s7re to arrive...
If you want to cycle the Shimanami Kaidou, be s7re to arrive early in Onomichi, since you are able to visit the main attractions, being Senkou-ji and the old temple course, in a few hours. After this you should be able to start cycling the Shimanami Kaidou.
It is a steep walk up from the station but the view is wonderful. It’s only c.1,000 JPY for a taxi if you don’t want to walk. You’ll be up here anyway to see Senkoji etc.
Even better were the staff who were incredibly helpful and friendly.
We stayed here 2 nights and then spent 2 days doing the Shimanami Kaido. We liked the hotel so much we then returned to this hotel for a final night in Onomichi after the cycling.
We’ve now spent 8 weeks in Japan across 3 trips and Onomichi is arguably our favourite town / city.
Stayed there after our cycle from Imabari to Onomichi. The hotel is located near the station in a refurbished concrete warehouse by the harbour, alongside some shops, a restaurant and a cafe. The view of the working harbour is quite industrial but also rather beautiful. The hotel itself was not cheap but it’s a cool building, the room was lovely, there was dedicated space for bikes and the breakfast was delicious. Perfect for doing the Shimanami Kaido and in a great spot to explore Onomichi.
Really liked the beautiful view from our room and the delivery of new toiletries and amenities when we chose not to have our room cleaned up on certain days. Good location near the station, shopping arcade, and various restaurants. It was chilly on the nights we returned to the hotel and enjoyed the hot tea and chocolate we could have for free at the lobby before going up to our room.
The place is really clean and the place is new. It is located in an area where there's a lot of izakayas (pubs) that open at night. It is near Hondori and there is a convenience store near it. It looks far to the tourist attractions on the map, but everywhere is actually walking distance in this area of Onomichi so I guess the location is not something to worry about.
Great to stay in an authentic Japanese house with futons and straw floor. Our son enjoyed the massage chair. We really appreciated the provided food for breakfast and loved the random visits from their cat. Great location to walk to cat alley and and even the train station. You can walk through the shōtengai or along the water to get to the train station.
We had a very comfortable and spacious room with a much appreciated Japanese style. The room was quiet with good beds. The onsen was very modern, tastefully decorated and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is well located right on the Shimanami Kaido cycling route. The included breakfast at a nearby restaurant was delicious!
The gentleman owner was friendly and provided a tour of the facilities. Stairs are narrow, but it is Japan, so it is expected. Good cultural experience. Information sheet to how to sleep on a futon was useful. Eventually realise the best place to brush your teeth was at the kitchen sink. It was only a one night stay.
This was probably one of my favorite places to stay in Japan for solo travelling.
Everyone was so nice and since I stayed for quite a few nights I got to talk and get to know the different staff and people staying there. I hope I get to go again, Onomichi was really fun to visit and my stay here only made it better!
Room spacy and confortable. Nice bathing and wc area. We stayed here one night because it was near Onomichi and Onomichi was overbooked. There were lots of bad reviews. This facility is in a love hotel concept but we haven’t had any issues about it. Staff was nice. Breakfast inc
Close to everything for the cycling route. Walkable to groceries, some restaurants and the train station. Kitchen was nice to make a western style breakfast. Washer worked well. This is always my first choice for Onomichi. Planning to return again.
Very convenient - right across the street from the Onomichi train station. And if you get a harbor view room, the view is spectacular. The room was a good size. Also, breakfast buffet was wonderful. staff was friendly and helpful.
Location excellent. David at front desk was extremely helpful. We were so relieved to have a host that spoke fluent English and was a very good communicator. He also provided great suggestions for touring Onomichi as well.
Great stay. Very comfortable family-run business. Our host was very helpful though we didn't speak Japanese. It's on the Mukashiama Island side of Onomichi so if you are on bikes do the temple walk before you cross over.
The location was pretty good, easily walkable from the Onomichi station. The actual place had a lot of character, little statues and drawings made me feel like I was part of a long line of travelers going through.
A beautiful traditional Japanese house, well kept and lightly refurbished. It features a kitchen, two separate toilets, a spacious wet bathroom and a split living room / entrance area. The bedroom is upstairs.
The view looking over Onomichi was amazing - in the evening and in the early morning to see the glowing sky above the town and harbor below was unbelievable - it was worth staying here for that alone!
The hotel staff were kind and very helpful. The room was comfortable, and the location was very convenient. It was wonderful to wake up as the sun rose. The breakfast buffet was delicious!
