This place is a really cool traditional Japanese inn, they totally nail it with the service. We, non-smokers, goofed up by booking a smoking room thinking it wouldn't be a big deal. But oh boy, the smell of smoke lingered and it was pretty unbearable for us. When the innkeeper found out, they swiftly swapped our room - it was such a relief. Later, we learned that it's usual for smoking rooms to smell, so we felt bad about the fuss. The service is top-notch here, and the hot springs are ultra-comfy. Plus, you get to experience this deep cultural vibe. We highly recommend this place!

I really liked the peaceful, traditional atmosphere of Akari no Yado Okabe. The staff were kind and welcoming. The breakfast was delicious—especially the fresh, local ingredients and seasonal dishes. The location is perfect: close to the main sights in Kakunodate, but tucked away just enough to feel quiet and relaxing.
