Our newly-renovated luxury apartments boast an incredibly convenient location less than a minute’s walk from the Costa Coffee on Torquay's bustling high street and five minutes' walk to the marina with its excellent choice of restaurants, bars, theatre and entertainment. Despite this central location, the apartments are remarkably quiet and peaceful, on a residential street with private off-street parking (very rare for central Torquay), and offering views over the lower part of the town out towards the harbour. Each apartment is unique and full of character in a house dating from the 1850s that well-demonstrates the Torquay practice of building up against the rock face of the valleys in which the town is built. This really is an amazing little hideaway, with all of Torquay’s amenities literally on the doorstep, and yet also a great base from which to explore the rest of Torbay and South Devon. Both apartments have been entirely refurbished during the winter of 2024, with new fitted kitchens and a high standard of internal decoration. They are well equipped, small family and dog friendly and boast high speed WiFi and use of a small shared raised garden to catch some afternoon sun. The hosts, Jonathan and Sade, live locally and also run one of Torquay's most highly-regarded guest houses and are therefore very happy to assist guests in any way they can. Do feel free to message us during your stay, should you require anything else or extra.
Our first experience of Torbay was in the Spring of 2016 when driving around South Devon on the lookout for somewhere to settle and bring up a young family. Driving along Torquay seafront on a beautiful spring afternoon, and then back along the stunning coast road from Dartmouth we both fell in love with South Devon, finally moving to Paignton in the winter of 2017.
We took over these lovely two apartments right in the centre of Torquay in August 2024, building on the love of hosting guests that we have built up at our boutique guest house - Kethla House - also in Torquay. Our mission is to ensure that all our guests have a relaxing and enjoyable stay with us, and especially for all those new to the English Riviera and to South Devon to experience the same love at first sight and happy memories that we did when we first came here.
Sade's first career was as an engineer in the oil and gas industry. Sade is hands-on and practical - she has always been passionate about buildings and about interior design. Our apartments in Torquay have both been extensively renovated during the winter of 2024; a task planned, managed and largely completed by Sade herself. Sade has an outgoing, bubbly, personality, and loves making sure that our guests have everything they need for their stay. She also loves dancing, travelling, gardening and entertaining...
Jonathan was born in Dover in Kent. Previously a university lecturer, when he married Sade he moved to Nigeria (via a brief sojourn in Saudi Arabia), where he spent his time setting up a business providing editing and consultancy services to academics and researchers around the world. He deals with all the business administration and accounting, cooks the breakfasts at our guest house and does his very best to always do what Sade tells him. Outside of work, he loves travelling, playing with our children, art, ballet and cricket.
The property is less than a minute's walk from Torquay's bustling high street and five minutes to the marina area where you can catch a ferry over to Brixham or just relax at one of the many bars and restaurants.
Other local attractions include:
The Princess Theatre - South Devon’s largest regional theatre offers a wide and varied programme all year round, including first class comedy, musicals, dance, music and children’s shows. The Princess Theatre is less than ten minute's walk from our apartments.
Torre Abbey - dating from the 12th century, with beautiful gardens and a rolling programme of art displays and cultural events - is just 15 minutes' walk from the apartments.
Paignton Zoo is one of the South West's most exciting visitor attractions with over 2,000 animals across 80 acres. Just 10 minutes from us by car
Cockington Village - Many villages lay claim to being "picturesque", but Cockington is the real deal. Take a walk back in time along narrow lanes, lined with thatched houses with their colour washed walls of stone and cobb, You'll experience a quiet charm that is a quintessentially English with its manor house, cricket ground, thatched pub, cream teas and craft shops.
Kents Cavern - One of the most important Stone Age cave sites in Europe, making it Britain's premier prehistoric cave. For thousands of years the cave was home to ancient humans, sheltering from extreme weather, making fires, shaping stone tools and hunting wild Ice Age predators. You will be taken back to the ancient times.
Dartmouth Steam Railway steam trains travel along the South Devon coast and into the Dart Valley to the beautiful village of Kingswear which sits opposite the pretty Port of Dartmouth. Dartmouth River Boats operate on the River Dart offering scheduled services on selected dates to the historic town of Totnes (nine miles upriver) as well as daily river cruises.
And, of course, Exeter, Dartmoor National Park and the beautiful South Hams are all nearby...
